Katrina Kaif has emerged as one of the most successful actresses in Bollywood. She has become the highest paid actress in Bollywood and she has given consecutive superhits in the last two years. She has emerged from being an actress who did not know hindi properly to the highest paid actress in Bollywood. She has delivered superhits like Namastey London, Partner, Welcome, Singh is King and has raced ahead of other actresses. Producers are ready to offer any sum of money to her for acting in their movies and she is even regarded as a lucky charm due to her consecutive superhits. Her chemistry with Akshay Kumar has resulted in both of them becoming superstars in such a short period of time.

Katrina Kaif would be dancing and performing in the famous J W Marriott Hotel on New Year’s Eve this year. She would be paid more than one crore rupees for this performance. Last year Bipasha Basu had performed on New Year’s Eve in the same hotel while Mallika Sherawat had perfomed the year before. Designer Rocky S would take care of her costumes for this performance while Bosco-Caeser will be choreographing the act. Katrina has once again proved that she is the highest paid let it be films or in stage performances. Good going Katrina!

Aamir Khan has already created a lot of hype in Bollywood with his great physique and looks in the movie Ghajini. Amir Khan is known as the perfectionist and he has yet again done a lot of hard work to build a great physique as required by the script of his forthcoming movie Ghajini. Aamir had a normal body till his last movie Taarein Zameen Par but in the first look of Ghajini his body has been admired by all. Everyone in Bollywood and in the whole of India was surprised by his great biceps and muscles which are visible in the first look of Ghajini. But Aamir must not have thought that his great biceps could create any problem for anybody. But his Ghajini biceps have actually created troubles for a lady. There was temporary tattoo on his body in the Ghajini first look photo of Aamir Khan where there was a random phone number written. But the phone number turned out to be of Dr. Surekha Verma, a resident of Kanjurmarg who started receiving a lot of calls abruptly asking for Aamir Khan. She switched off the phone and later came to know that her phone number was tattooed on Aamir’s biceps. However, Madhu Verma, the producer of the movie said they would apologize to Dr. Surekha Verma for the problem caused and would offer a new mobile connection which Dr. Verma told was fine.

Golmaal Returns and Fashion light up box office on Diwali

December 26, 2008 by

Golmaal Returns and Fashion were released on Diwali with a lot of expectations as there were no big crackers in the box office for sometime. And Diwali week is always regarded as a very good week to release movies as there has been good business on Diwali throughout the years. This time India is going through economic strains and so filmmakers and distributors were worried if movies would do good business inspite of the economic situation.

This year the box office has again responded well this Diwali. Both Golmaal Returns and Fashion opened with 80-90% occupancy in the first two days. While the distributors has revealed that Golmaal Returns grossed over Rs 11 crore in the first day itself and Fashion earned 7 crore. The best part is that Golmaal Returns and Fashion are targetted at different audience groups and so will not be affecting each others business. Golmaal is already a sure shot hit and might be even a superhit if it sustains in the second week. Fashion is doing well in multiplex audiences in the metros and it is picking up very good after a slow start. It seems Diwali 2008 might even be better than Diwali 2007 in terms of box office collections although there are no huge films like Om Shanti Om and Sawariya like 2007.

Golmaal Returns movie review

Golmaal was released in 2006 which was an excellent comedy by Rohit Shetty. This inspired Rohit Shetty and the producers to bring a sequel to that movie in Golmaal Returns. But bringing a sequel has always resulted in comparisions to the original movie Golmaal. Golmaal Returns fails to match the expectations of the original Golmaal.

The biggest negative of Golmaal Returns is the insane script which is filled up with zero-brain and bizzare mindless comedy. Gopal (Ajay Devgan) is married to Ekta (Kareena Kapoor) who keeps suspecting her husband inspired by the K-serials. Gopal is stuck on a yacht with sister Esha (Amrita Arora), brother-in-law Lucky (Tusshar Kapoor) after he saves an attractive girl Meera (Celina Jaitley) from some goons. Both of them spend the night in the yacht and when he returns home the next day Ekta feels there is something fishy going on. Then the storyline goes ahead pathetically as the audience gets irritated with the mindless comedy.

The best positive of the movie is Tusshar Kapoor who has again acted brilliantly with great comic timing in this movie too. The movie has got some jokes and gags but fails as compared to the original Golmaal. The screenplay is pathetic and the script of Golmaal Returns is the biggest golmaal. This movie is only watchable on the big screen if you are a fan of mindless comedy and surely not more than a one time watch.

I would give it a rating of 2.5/5

Fashion movie review

Fashion has been directed by Madhur Bhandarkar who is known for his realistic movies like Page 3, Chandni Bar and Corporate. Madhur Bhandarkar made the movie Fashion to expose the dark side of the fashion industry too. The movie went through a lot of controversies and the movie even received an “A” rating from the censor board. It was expected that the film would touch the sex, sleaze, drugs, compromise and all other negative aspects of the fashion industry. Many people in the fashion industry also felt that this pessimistic view of the industry might give a wrong impression to the masses about the industry.

But Madhur Bhandarkar has again showed brilliance in directing realistic cinema with absolute flawlessness. The story is about Meghna Mathur (Priyanka Chopra) who wants to become a supermodel and she walks the ramp for various designers and makes it to the top in the fashion industry. But she has to pay the price soon and her decline from the position starts very soon. She also meets a lot of people during this period especially Shonali Gujral (Kangana Ranaut) and Janet (Mugdha Godse). But she does is not ready to give up so easily. The storytelling, screenplay and cinematography are excellent in the movie. There is skin show in the movie to some extent but the script demads it and it is not unnecessary glamour and skin show as used by Bollywood filmmakers. There are some great situations in the movie like Shonali’s wardrobe malfunction and Janet marrying a famous gay designer (Samir Soni) even after knowing about the situation.

All the actresses in the movie have done absolute justice to their roles. Mugdha Godse is natural although she is a newcomer while Kangana Ranaut has performed brilliantly and might be in nominations for supporting actress award next year. But Priyanka Chopra stole the show with a career best performance. She is excellent throughout the movie more towards the second hour. She is not only gorgeous but has acted exceptionally well in the movie. The best scene according to me is the one when she falls in her own eyes and breaks down infront of the mirror.

This movie is excellent and Madhur Bhandarkar has again proved that he can touch the masses with realistic cinema.

I would give this movie a rating of 4/5.

Hello Movie Review

December 26, 2008 by

Hello was released on October 10 and is based on the famous book One Night at the Call Center by Chetan Bhagat. The promotional videos of the movie mainly showed Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif. But to everyone’s disappointment, both Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif are only in special appearances in the movie. The story is of six call center executives – Shyam/Agent Sam (Sharman Joshi), Varun/Vroom (Sohail Khan), Radhika (Amrita Arora), Eesha (Eesha Koppikar), Priyanka (Gul Panag) and Military Uncle/VP Chauhan (Sharat Saxena) who have been in the same call center for six years. Their boss Mr Bakshi (Dalip Tahil) is hated by all of them. The story revolves around their personal lives and struggles for most of the movie and it is only towards the end that they receive a call from God. The story is a bit messed up and the screenplay is very weak.

The actors and actresses in the movie have done a decent job though Sharman Joshi has done considerably better than the rest. The book is good for reading but the adaptation of Chetan’s Bhagat’s book by Atul Agnihotri is average.

I would give this movie a rating of 2.5/5.
