Everyone had high expectations from A R Rahman at the Oscars after he became the first Indian to win a Golden Globe award for his Background Score in Slumdog Millionaire. But not only has A R Rahman got an Academy Award Nomination but he has got 3 nominations at the Oscars with Best Music (Score) for Slumdog Millionaire, Best Music (song) for Jai Ho song of Slumdog Millionaire and Best Music (song) for O Saya song of Slumdog Millionaire. He has a very high chance of winning in both the categories. He has already won the Background Score at the Golden Globe Award which is regarded as a preview to the Oscars. And in the other category Best Music (song) he has got two nominations out of the three nominations in the category and will only need to compete with Peter Gabriel and Thomas Newman for their song “Down to Earth” in “Wall E”. In two of his nominations namely Best Music (song) for “Jai Ho” and Best Music (song) for “O Saya”, he shares the nomination with Gulzar (who has penned the lyrics of Jai Ho) and Maya Arulpragasam (who has penned the lyrics of O Saya with Rahman) respectively. Rahman was elated with the three nominations saying he had never expected three nominations but the “King of Indian Music” remained humble as ever. Rahman was with his family at his home in Chennai when the nominations were announced and he said that he was feeling on top of the world after the nominations. Rahman could not attend the Indian premiere of Slumdog Millionaire in Mumbai as he had to give the final touches to the musical score of Rakyesh Omprakash Mehra’s Delhi 6. He thanked all Indians for the love and prayers bestowed upon him. He also thanked all the technicians, musicians and all those who have been a part of his music throughout the years. He was grateful to God and he thanked the Almighty for his success. He also congratulated and thanked the whole team of Slumdog Millionaire and hoped that he might bring India’s first Oscar. The whole team of Slumdog Millionaire and the whole of Bollywood were also thrilled with Rahman’s nominations and Irrfan Khan (who was also part of the movie) said that he hoped A R Rahman wins one Oscar at least, lyricist Gulzar also said that A R Rahman should win an award while Hrithik Roshan simply bowed to show his respect to A R Rahman. There were many others like Shabani Azmi, Javed Akhtar, Ila Arun (who sung Ringa Ringa with Alka Yagnik), Sukhvinder Singh (who sung Jai Ho), filmmaker Yash Chopra, Anil Kapoor (who was the anchor of the show in the movie) and Preity Zinta who also congratulated A R Rahman for the nominations.

We all Indians also congratulate the versatile genius and hope that he brings at least one Oscar and if possible two. Jai Ho Rahman, Jai Ho Danny Boyle and Jai Ho Slumdog Millionaire. A R Rahman gets 3 Oscar Nominations for Slumdog Millionaire

Resul Pookutty who is a sound mixer from Kerela has made it to the Oscars with an Academy Award Nomination for Sound Mixing for the movie Slumdog Millionaire. He shares this nominations with Ian Tapp and Richard Pryke for the same movie. Resul Pokutty has been a lesser known figure even in India (technicians in Bollywood movie hardly get any limelight Kerela sound mixer Resul Pookutty makes it to the Oscars ) but has been behind the sound of many Bollywood films like Ghajini, Saawariya, Gandhi My Father, Black, Bluffmaster, Dus Kahaniyan, Zinda and many others. He had won the Zee Cine Awards for Best Audiography for the Sanjay Dutt movie Musafir way back in 2004 and had never even had any other nomination since then. But this time around, Resul Pookutty’s hard work and dedication seems to have paid off as he got another nomination too at the prestigious BAFTA Film Award for Best Sound in Slumdog Millionaire and he also made it to the Hollywood’s Cinema Audio Society’s nominations. With all these nominatons, Resul Pookutty seems to have made his definite mark not only in India but internationally too.

Resul Pookutty was very emotional on hearing the nomination and he said he had not expected in the wildest dreams that he would get an Academy Award Nomination. He said it was absolutely unbelievable that he has got an Oscar nomination.

We all Indians wish that Resul Pookutty wins the Oscar too which will not only fulfill his dreams but also give him his due for the hard work he has done in the last 12 years in Indian cinema.

A R Rahman won the Best Original Score – Motion Picture, Slumdog Millionaire won the Best Motion Picture – Drama, Danny Boyle won Best Director – Motion Picture and Simon Beaufoy won Best Screenplay – Motion Picture as Slumdog Millionaire swept the Golden Globe awards with 4 awards. It was the highest number of awards won by any movie at the Golden Globe this year. It was incredible that it won all four awards for which it was nominated. It was great to see how the whole of Hollywood fraternity stood up in respect when Danny Boyle, A R Rahman or anybody of the Slumdog Millionaire crew went to accept the awards. The whole of Hollywood showed how much they respect this great movie.

For Indians who are not much aware, I would like to inform that Golden Globe awards is the next big awards to Oscars and regarded by many as a preview of the Oscars. The best picture winners of the Golden Globe has almost always managed to grab similar recognition at the Oscars too. So, this year Slumdog Millionaire might sweep the Oscars too. I sincerely believe that Slumdog Millionaire deserves every award that it has got and I wish that it would conquer new heights in Hollywood and world cinema. I have watch Slumdog Millionaire just yesterday and I will post the review very soon if possible today itself. I have cherished every minute of the movie and I am sure you will also cherish the great movie when it releases in India on Jaunary 23.

Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan was also invited on the occasion where he thanked Hollywood and praised Slumdog Millionaire. Bollywood and Hollywood has become closer day by day and it is great to see the largest film industries in the world coming so close to each other. Anil Kapoor, Dev Patel, Freida Pinto and the whole crew of Slumdog was present as the best motion picture drama award was given.

I would also like to mention that the director of the movie Danny Boyle thanked India, Mumbai, the Indian masses and all the whole Indian crew including Anil Kapoor, Irrfan Khan and other great actors. A R Rehman also said that his award for the best Best Original Score – Motion Picture was the win of a billion Indian people. I was really enriched by his as well as Danny Boyle’s humility. Great going Danny Boyle, A R Rehman and the whole crew of Slumdog Millionaire and hope that you rock the Oscars too.
